A flat and dimensionally accurate sealing surface is essential for the cylinder head, head gasket and engine block to work together reliably. In our own engine workshop, we use CNC-controlled automated machinery to resurface MINI cylinder heads and engine blocks. In addition to resurfacing, we also provide cleaning, measurement, pressure testing and machining of valves and valve seats.

MINI engine block in the CNC machine at the Miniparts24 engine workshop

CNC machining in our own engine workshop

The machining is carried out directly at Miniparts24 and does not have to be outsourced to an external engine specialist. This allows us to assess the condition of the component ourselves and determine the necessary work for the individual cylinder head or engine block.

We machine cylinder heads and engine blocks from all MINI generations. You can supply an individual component or bring us the complete vehicle.

When do a cylinder head or engine block need resurfacing?

Whether machining is necessary and technically possible can only be determined after cleaning and measurement. Not every removed cylinder head or engine block automatically needs resurfacing. At the same time, machining the sealing surface alone is not always sufficient when more extensive damage is present.

  • After overheating: High temperatures can distort the cylinder head and, in severe cases, the sealing surface of the engine block.
  • After head-gasket damage: The sealing surfaces of the cylinder head and engine block must be checked for unevenness, damage and material loss.
  • When corrosion or sealing-surface damage is present: Minor unevenness and suitable surface damage can be removed through professional machining.
  • During an engine overhaul: The cylinder head and engine block are measured so that further machining is based on the actual condition of the components.

During resurfacing, only as much material as necessary and technically permitted is removed to create an even sealing surface. If a component is excessively distorted, cracked or has already been machined beyond its permitted dimensions, further machining may not be suitable. In this case, we discuss an appropriate alternative with you.

Our cylinder-head and engine-block machining services

  • Cleaning: Removal of oil, combustion deposits and other contamination where required for inspection and machining
  • Measurement: Checking flatness, component dimensions and relevant measurements before machining
  • Pressure testing: Checking for leaks and damage that may not always be clearly visible externally
  • Cylinder-head resurfacing: Precise machining of the sealing surface within the technically permitted dimensions
  • Engine-block resurfacing: Machining the sealing surface of suitable engine blocks
  • Valve and valve-seat machining: Inspection and machining using our own valve-processing equipment
  • Inspection of other components: Checking valve guides, threads and accessible areas for visible damage or wear

Individual component or complete MINI

You can deliver or send us a cylinder head or engine block that has already been removed. Please tell us beforehand which engine it belongs to, what damage is known and which work is required.

Alternatively, you can bring us the complete MINI. Removal, dismantling, required parts and subsequent installation are not included in the individual machining prices and are calculated according to the vehicle and the actual findings.

Turnaround time and basic prices

The individual machining of a supplied cylinder head or engine block normally takes approximately one workshop day. Additional inspections, valve machining, repairs, required parts or extensive damage can increase the turnaround time.

Basic servicePriceApplication
Cylinder-head resurfacing75 €3–4 cylinders, aluminium
Cylinder-head cleaning20 €Basic cleaning only
Engine-block resurfacing95 €3–4 cylinders, aluminium
Basic prices include VAT.

The prices apply exclusively to the stated basic service. Measurement, pressure testing, valve and valve-seat machining, thread repairs, parts, dismantling, installation, shipping and further work are charged additionally according to the condition of the component. We discuss how to proceed with you before carrying out more extensive additional work.

Send a cylinder head or engine block from anywhere in Europe

Cylinder heads and suitable engine blocks can be sent to our engine workshop from anywhere in Europe by prior arrangement. The component must be packaged securely for transport and in a way that prevents operating fluids from leaking.

Inbound and return shipping costs are not included in the machining prices and are charged additionally. The exact cost depends on the weight, dimensions and collection or destination address.

Need complete engine machining?

If the entire engine needs to be inspected and rebuilt rather than only the sealing surfaces, you can find more information on our MINI engine overhaul page. The work required and necessary components are determined according to the engine and the actual damage.

Request cylinder-head or engine-block machining

Please include the complete vehicle identification number or exact engine code in your appointment request. Also state whether you would like to deliver or send a cylinder head, an engine block or the complete MINI and describe any known damage or previous test results. You can attach photographs and existing measurement reports directly.
